Isis and the Sacred Moment of Renewal
In ancient Egyptian mysticism, there is a night called, Leylet-en-Nuktah, or the Night of the Drop. This night around June 16 - 17, is a sacred moment that honours the goddess Isis when she shed a single tear for her beloved Osiris. Her tears are said to initiate the annual flooding of the Nile.
When Isis mourned her beloved Osiris the Nile flooded caused by her tears that carried the essence of her sorrow and her great love. These tears flooded the Nile and carried life-giving silt across the land, ensuring fertility and abundance for the people of Khemit (Ancient Egypt).
The Symbolism of Isis’s Tear
Isis is the Mother of Magic, and she embodies the eternal cycle of loss, transformation, and rebirth. Her grief is a sacred offering, reminding us that even in the depths of despair, renewal is possible. The Nile’s inundation was seen as her blessing, a gift that sustained life and gave prosperity.
Ancient Egyptians would come together by the banks of the River Nile on this night, to watch for signs that the water was going to rise. Some would leave lumps of dough marked with personal symbols, because they believed that the cracks that formed overnight could reveal insights into their fate. Others Honoured Isis as the divine force behind nature and performed rituals of mourning and gratitude.
Sirius and the New Year
The Night of the Drop is also connected to the heliacal rising of Sirius, the brightest star in the sky, which symbolises the beginning of the Egyptian New Year. Sirius, known as Sopdet, was deeply connected to Isis, and the theme of rebirth and cosmic alignment. As the star rises above the horizon, it signals a new cycle of growth, transformation, and divine timing.
Honouring Isis around June 16 – 17 The Night of the Drop
This is a night for reflection and renewal. Whether through meditation, ritual, or simply acknowledging the cycles of life, we can embrace the lessons of Isis as she teaches us that grief can be sacred, transformation is inevitable, and renewal is always within reach. As we honour the tears of the goddess, we open the gateway to finding our own path to healing and abundance.
Take a moment in your day around June 16 - 17, to imagine you are standing beside the Sacred Waters of the Nile and if you are in Egypt, go down to the Nile and under the light of the moon, pay your respects to Isis and honour her with an invocation.
While I was in meditation I was given a sacred mantra, I share this with you now….
Hu Ra Ma Tae Hu Ra - means to embody the light of the Great Mother Soul
Invocation to Isis
O Divine Mother Isis, Keeper of the Eternal Mysteries,
Through the veil of time and the flow of the Cosmos, I call upon you....
On this Night of the Drop, as Your sacred tear awakens the waters, may Your sorrow transform into blessings,
May Your love overflow into abundance,
May Your wisdom guide me through the cycles of change.
Hu Ra Ma Tae Hu Ra... (chant x 3)
Let this mantra carry your essence through my being,
Let it echo through the sacred waters of renewal,
Let it weave its light into the temple of my soul.
Isis of the Heavenly Realms, Queen of the Nile,
I surrender my grief into your sacred current, knowing that healing is carried upon your breath,
That what is lost shall be reborn,
And that within the flow of life, I am always held, always guided, always renewed.
Hu Ra Ma Tae Hu Ra... (chant x 3)
By the rising of Sirius, the Star of the New Year,
By the flowing of Hapi, and the sacred waters,
By the golden embrace of the Mother of Magic,
I honour You, Isis, Guardian of Eternal Renewal.
So, it is. So, it shall be.
